CourtSide ("we", "our", or "us") is operated by Courtside App, a business registered in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use the CourtSide mobile application and website at becourtside.com.

By using CourtSide, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

Information We Collect

Account information

• Your name and email address when you create an account
• Your sport preferences and skill level
• Your display name and profile details, including a profile photo if you choose to add one
• Your date of birth, to confirm you meet our minimum age requirement

Location information

• Your device location (with your permission) to show sessions and venues near you
• Location is used only while the app is in use and is not stored on our servers

Payment information

• At present, CourtSide does not process or collect any payment or card details. Hosts set a price for their session, and players pay the host directly (for example, by bank transfer or in person) using details the host shares in the session chat.
• We do not store bank account numbers, card numbers, or any other payment credentials on our servers.
• We are building an optional in-app payment feature for a future update. If and when that feature launches, this policy will be updated first to explain exactly what payment information is collected and how it is handled by our payment processor, Stripe.

Usage information

• Sessions you host or join
• Attendance records and game history
• Messages sent in session group chats
• Push notification tokens (to send you session reminders and updates)

How We Use Your Information

• To create and manage your account
• To match you with open sports sessions near you
• To display the price a host has set for a session, and to help you and other players coordinate manual payment between yourselves
• To send you session reminders, booking confirmations, and updates
• To enable group chat within sessions you are part of
• To improve the app and resolve technical issues
• To communicate important updates about the service

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.

How We Store Your Information

Your data is stored on Supabase, hosted on AWS in the ap-southeast-2 (Sydney) region. This means your data is stored in Australia and subject to Australian data protection laws.

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or financial compliance purposes.

Sharing Your Information

We share limited information with other users of the app in order to operate the service:

• Your display name, profile photo (if set), and sport preferences are visible to other players in sessions you join or host
• Your attendance status is shared with the session host
• Messages you send in session group chats are visible to all participants in that session

We share information with the following third-party service providers only as necessary to operate CourtSide:

• Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage
• Expo / Expo Push — push notifications
• Resend — transactional email

We do not share your information with any other third parties, including advertisers, data brokers, or marketing companies. If we introduce in-app Stripe payments in a future update, Stripe will be added to this list and this policy will be updated accordingly.

Push Notifications

With your permission, we send push notifications to your device for session reminders, booking confirmations, and chat messages. You can disable push notifications at any time through your device settings. Disabling notifications will not affect your ability to use the app.

Your Rights

Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988, you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your account and personal data
• Withdraw consent for us to use your location
• Opt out of non-essential communications

Children's Privacy

CourtSide is intended for users aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe an underage user has created an account, please contact us and we will remove it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — in particular, when we introduce new features such as in-app payments. We will notify you of significant changes via email or an in-app notification. The date at the top of this page reflects when the policy was last updated. Continued use of CourtSide after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
